Metamorphoses of a Ballad Opera in the Mid-17th Century: “Love In a Village” by Thomas Augustine Arne

The article reviews one of the greatest pieces of the English musical stage of the mid-17th century, i.e. the opera “Love in a Village”, a work of the collaborative authorship led by Thomas Augustine Arne (1710–1778). “Love in a Village” is reviewed
in the context of its genre typology in the context of its classification in various studies as a comic opera, a ballad opera and a pastiche. The author explores the issue of the specifics of a music collaborative authorship in this case and the degree
of authorship attribution to Thomas Arne.
