The article presents a classifi cation of the evaluative characteristics of a student in the Russian literature. It is based on the material from the Russian National Corpus. The author explores the linguistic evaluations which demonstrate the attitude of various
members of society towards the students of the 19th and 20th centuries. The study of linguistic units, mainly adjectives and participles, in the evaluations of students contributes to identifying the similarities and differences in the characteristics
of students in the 19th and 20th centuries. Based on the method of comparative analysis, quantitative method, etc., stable and dynamic characteristics may contribute to a fuller defi nition of a student from the different eras in the Russian prose.
