THE PHENOMENON OF SLAVERY IN CICERO’S SOCIAL AND PHILOSOPHICAL DOCTRINE

D. A. Fedorov
Price: 50 руб.
The paper is aimed to give an understanding of the place and role of slavery in the system of social and philosophical ideas of Marcus Tullius Cicero. The topicality of the paper is due to the relatively poor coverage of this issue in the domestic historical and philosophical discourse. In the author’s opinion, Cicero’s statements about slavery as a social phenomenon are quite ambiguous. The ideas of the Roman philosopher in this area changed over the time. Justifying slavery in early works, later Cicero demonstrates a more moderate attitude to this social phenomenon. The reasoning and conclusions proposed by the author can be of interest for specialists in the history of ancient social philosophy.
Key words: social philosophy, history of philosophy, slavery, Cicero, antiquity, ancient
Rome.
