INTERPRETATION OF THE “ORDO” CONCEPT IN CICERO’S SOCIAL

D. A. Fyodorov
Price: 50 руб.
The paper is devoted to interpreting the term “ordo” within the conceptual framework in the social and philosophical doctrine of Marcus Tullius Cicero. This topic is relatively poorly covered in the domestic scientific literature. The author of the paper comes to the conclusion that Cicero uses the concept of “ordo” to refer, first of all, to professional, financial or legal affiliation of representatives of a particular social group. At the same time, “ordo” is not used by Cicero in the sense of “social stratum” in the modern sociological understanding of this phenomenon as a stable social group, whose representatives possess a prescribed inherited legal status. The reasoning and conclusions proposed by the author of the paper may be of interest to specialists in the history of the ancient social philosophy.
Key words: ordo, social philosophy, history of philosophy, Cicero, antiquity, ancient Rome.
