One of the profession-oriented problems related to teaching Russian to Turkish students in a non-Russian-speaking environment is regarded in the article. Linguistic and sociocultural competence has to be formed by means of the project method to improve the quality of language education of specialists in the tourism industry. Specialists with formed linguistic and sociocultural competence will be able to work successfully with clients from Russia or Russian-speaking clients from other countries. Topics for educational projects should be selected so that they have a clear cross-cultural nature. Tourism business project topics are divided according to the three parameters: sphere, functions, and professional activity. The suggested method ensures a high standard of linguistic and sociocultural competence in Russian and optimisation of the educational process in general.
