This article attempts to classify nicknames in the Bashkir language, formed from the onomastic units. On the basis of rich factual material, the authors analyze nicknames that were derived from the onomastic units, particularly different age groups of population of the southern regions of the Republic of Bashkortostan. The analysis suggests that proper names can provide ample material for the formation of modern nicknames in the Bashkir language.
