Conceptual Metaphor as a Cognitive Tool for Understanding the Language of the Print Media

 This article explores the origins of cognitive linguistics. Its introduction was a revolutionary point in science. Due to the emergence of anthropocentric paradigm there is a need for a new approach in linguistics. A new cognitive approach provides a useful tool for an in-depth perception of the universe. A human being and cognition processes become central to cognitive approach and a major source of learning. There is a need to find the tool to study cognition. A metaphor becomes such tool due to its locus and
its nature. Subsequently, the term “conceptual metaphor” appears. This type of metaphor encompasses the ability to categorize, explain and understand the world. This article explores the metaphor as a cognitive tool for understanding the language of the print media, which has become the most popular and relevant in the field of research. Special attention is drawn to the impact of conceptual metaphors on the reputable popular media in the United Kingdom.
