Theoretical and practical aspects of humanitarisation of vocational training of engineers in the system of Russian higher education are presented in this article. The study proves the need for developing additional liberal arts education for polytechnic students which is a key foundation for a personality’s complete development and humanitarian culture, universal humanistic values, personal purport and moral guidelines. In the article the work of the cultural and educational center “Garmoniya” of the Institute of Humanities of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University is analysed as a practical model of organising free additional liberal arts education for polytechnic students.
