The emergence of the dialogue between the Russian Orthodox Church and Anglicans in the era of Peter the Great is considered in the paper. Under Peter the Great the interaction of Orthodox Christians and Anglicans became closer just when the glorified sea power of Great Britain tried by all means to prevent Russia’s ultimate victory in the Great Northern War. In these conditions Peter the Great was interested in support from adherents (and in the long term – brothers in faith) in Great Britain.
Key words: Russian Orthodox Church, Anglican Church, Synod, history of Russia of
the 18th century.
