The article is written in line with anthropocentric researches and devoted to the
reconstruction of the verbal and semantic level of a historical language personality. The
author analyses the possibilities of a personality of the first half of the 18th century in
choosing forms of verbs, participles and adverbial participles from the perspective of
the writing person’s relation to the norm that is reflected in “The Russian grammar” by
M. V. Lomonosov. Using the business letters of the Ural industrialist A. N. Demidov,
the author of the paper defines the possibility of the ortological characteristic of the
personality creating texts under the formation of the Russian literary language standards. Letters show some tendencies in the grammatical features of sentences: the use of old grammatical forms (archaisms) and inclusion of new forms in text. The variability of grammatical forms in the letters is great, which is explained by the considerable influence of both the previous written tradition and the developing new practice of writing.
