This article explores a whole range of issues related to the infl uences of the Western European artistic schools upon the evolution of Russian landscape painting in the second half of the 18th - early 20th centuries. The role of works by renowned Italian, Swiss, German and French masters of landscape art in the formation of graphic techniques, which were assimilated and synthesized by the Russian artists, is also examined.
