CULTURAL FEATURES OF JAPANESE COMMUNITY DETERMINING THE EFFECTIVE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE JIT LOGISTIC CONCEPT

A. V. Kagal’nikova
Price: 50 руб.
The article covers the unique characteristics of Japanese culture, which determine successful adoption and inoculation of alien elements. It analyses the particularities of
Japanese mindset that enable the effective functionality of the “Just in Time” logical
concept. The author explains why Toyota borrowed “Just in Time” from the American
Ford Motor Company, how this concept was supplemented by a new communication
tool — Kamban cards, and how a joint “Just in Time” and “Toyota Production System”
model that represents the company’s tradition of resource management was created.
A synthetic model of these three elements — “Just in Time”, “Kamban” and “Toyota
Production System” — is regarded as a management philosophy based on specific principles. Abiding these principles is considered by the author to be an important condition for the concept’s effective functionality. The article reviews what specific cultural sensitivities and mindset characteristics facilitate the observance of these principles. Special attention is given to the sense of loyalty and mutually grateful relations common to the Japanese both in personal and corporative settings, with an example of keiretsu, and how it promotes the effective functionality of the “Just in Time” concept. The author also highlights a number of dominant Japanese concepts, which are tightly interlaced with the spirit of collectivism and trust, as well as Japanese corporative leaders’ special focus on personnel administration and productivity enhancement by various means.
