 The paper is devoted to the analysis of the concepts of personal identity and social
identity and their interpretation by both domestic and foreign scholars. The author
analyses the relationship between these concepts and identifies common elements that
are present in studies of the considered scientists. Based on theoretical generalisation
and systematisation, the author studies specific features of the phenomenon of identity
in sociology.
