The article shows the development of the tactics of the Red Army during the Great
Patriotic War. The following factors influenced the development of tactics during the
Great Patriotic War : attitudes of the military leadership of the Red Army to conduct of
a battle type (mostly pre-war); tactics of the enemy; the development and availability
of means of warfare; historical experience of warfare; political views on the progress
and outcome of the war (as expressed in military doctrines and other state laws). The
improvement of tactics consisted in optimisation of the organisational structure, combat
orders, defense posture (the fire damage system, the system of reference points and firing positions), combat missions and battle training activities.
