The article deals with the nature of semantic and cognitive structures. The aim is to
differentiate between the two phenomena and specify their functions. It is shown
that semantic structures correlate with structural knowledge while cognitive ones –
predominantly with phenomenological knowledge. A case study of the verb “break” is
used to construe the cognitive structures of the Observer.
