The article is dedicated to the depiction and comprehension of one of the most important periods in the American playwright Sam Shepard’s life and works – the 1990s. The author identifi es and justifi es the connection between social and political changes in the United States and the transformation of stylistic and artistic features of Shepard’s works. The article shows how the theatrical process in New York was infl uenced by Sam Shepard’s works. The author’s research for the fi rst time reveals the enormous value of the playwright’s works of the 1990s and his infl uence on dramatists of the next generation.
