The article explores the speci fi cs of the symbolic meanings of the color language inherent in the ancient Egyptian works of art. Knowledge of these speci fi c features is important to help understand both the art of this culture and the canons by which it was created and continued to in fl uence successive art schools.
Key words: the sign nature of colour in the art of ancient Egypt, the terminology and the
classi fi cation of colour, religious sense of colour symbolism, colour as a sacred sign-image, philosophical and aesthetic signi fi cance of colour.
