PEKING OPERA IN THE 21 ST CENTURY

 Peking opera is celebrating its 200th anniversary. As a part of Chinese and world cultural heritage, it embodies the quintessence of the Chinese musical and dramatic genre. Some of the major peculiarities of Peking opera include specifi representation of reality and deep connection to the ancient Chinese tradition of environment perception. Combining songs and dances, acrobatics, colorful costumes and masks, painting, poetry and elements of martial arts, Peking opera is popular nowadays and quite similar to modern musicals. Competing with cinema and computer games, Peking opera has several waysof development. Some of them are discussed in the article.
