The Art Nouveau era is considered in the article as a signifiant shift in various areas
of culture: from rational discourse to sensual, material and corporeal sides. This shift
manifested itself in philosophy and diverse social practices, including the artistic quest
(synthesis, synesthesia, universal sense). The article covers a multidimensional image of the cosmos and the dual function of home in East European Art Nouveau. The author proposes a historical and philosophic understanding of East European Art Nouveau in the collision of two trends: on the one hand, projects of universal greatness, based on the possibility of redefiing the very centre of the new European civilisation, which is hypothetically moving to Eastern Europe (N. Roerich, M. Ciurlionis, A. Skryabin, K. Tsiolkovsky, and others), and on the other hand, an ironic smile over the modernist pathos of gigantism (V. Gombrovich, Bruno Schulz, V. Rozanov, and others).
