Abstract. The article is devoted to the influence of parental attitude on the development of voluntary attention in primary school children. The study involved 226 parent-child pairs. The research methodological tools included: the questionnaire of parent-child relations by A. Ya. Varga and V. V. Stolin and the “Psychological Type of Parent” questionnaire by V. V. Tkachev. The study of voluntary attention was carried out using structured observation of educational activities and the Toulouse-Pieron voluntary attention test. The results of the study of parental style and parental attitude revealed a significant relationship between the type of voluntary attention in children. The data obtained showed that the authoritarian style predominates, which has a noticeable destructive impact on the cognitive development of children. The positive correlation between the degree of authoritarianism and the severity of cognitive impairment in
children explains the need to revise the approaches to education and training. The combination of the authoritarian style with elements of cooperation based on emotional support and partnership forms active and subnormal types of voluntary attention.
