Abstract. The article examines the impact of volunteer activity on the formation of socio-
cultural competence of high school students. The purpose of the work is to analyse the role
of volunteerism in the development of socio-cultural competence of students based on a
theoretical understanding of the problem, a review of the regulatory framework and best
practices, as well as the results of empirical research. The normative documents regulating
volunteering and the experience of organising school volunteering in Russia and abroad
are considered. The results of the survey and interviews are presented, confirming the posi-
tive impact of the participation of high school students in volunteer initiatives on their so-
cialisation, citizenship and the development of key competencies. The author of the article
notes the need for a systematic approach to the integration of volunteer programmes into
the educational process, taking into account current trends and social demands.
