Abstract. Abstractness is considered to be a characteristic of a word, concept, linguistic unit, indicating its connection with the sensory, objective experience of the individual. The concepts that constitute the content of mental representations may differ in the level of concreteness and abstractness, but in recent works there is no consistency of whether the concepts that describe emotions as a class of phenomena are concrete or abstract. 73 students (17 males, 56 females) took part in the study. The participants’ task was to rate the abstractness of the concepts that constitute the content of mental representations of emotions as a class of phenomena (60 concepts) on a 5-point scale. The results obtained showed that most of the concepts have an average level of abstraction. A high consistency with English-language norms of abstraction was found out, as well as a high consistency in the level of abstraction in groups that differed in gender and specialty / area of training.
