Abstract. The article is devoted to the typology of monastery complexes in Pskov Oblast.
Drawing upon scientifi c literature published from the middle of the 20th century, as well as print publications and archive documents, the author of the article analyses the methods of constructing the space-planning compositions of monasteries and elicits common approaches to this topic based on the typologies developed earlier. The aim of this study is to defi ne the geography of expansion of the monastery complexes in Pskov Oblast; to classify them in accordance with the time of their foundation and existence; to research plans and to systematise the architectural ensembles of monasteries which are traditional for this region by typology groups; to study special typological aspects in the layout of the main monastery buildings (cathedrals, churches, over-the-gate churches and bell towers) and also architectonic layout solution of monastery fences. Studying the principles of the building typology will allow architects to have a well-grounded approach to the project development of buildings and complexes of this type.
