Abstract. The violin art of China is an interesting and little-studied page of the musical
culture of the Celestial Empire. Having begun its development only in the 20th century
and having a long period of stagnation for historical reasons of the Cultural Revolution in
China, by the end of the last century, the violin art in China entered a new stage of devel-
opment, showing the world a positive example of organic combination of academic and
national elements. The purpose of the article is to give Russian musicologists information
about the main periods in the development of violin art in China, as well as to trace the
trends of its further development. The research objectives are: to present the names of the most prominent representatives of the Chinese violin art; to identify specifi c features of the formation of the Chinese violin school; to analyse the features of the interaction of western and eastern elements in the violin culture of China.
Keywords: violin, China, stages of development of the violin art, East and West
