Abstract. The paper briefl y examines the piano music by some Norwegian composers of
late XIX — early XX centuries, including little-known ones. Musical fi gures of that period, whose music has national peculiarities which are combined with new elements of the musical language common for that time, contributed to popularization of the national artistic culture. The relevance of the research lies in the fact that the paper is the fi rst attempt to analyze the cycle entitled “Gothic images - poems for piano” оp.17 by Alf Hurum. The author of this research is the fi rst to present the features of A. Hurum’s piano language to a wide range of readers. This makes it possible to enrich and expand the existing information about transformations in this Scandinavian culture within the specifi ed period.
