Abstract. Russian historical painting of late XIX — early XX centuries marks the theme of the proletariat’s revolutionary struggle. The growth of the political consciousness of artists, success of revolutionary transformations, development of socialist realism determined the Soviet historical-revolutionary genre emerging. During the years of Soviet power, Krasnoyarsk artists created a lot of works dedicated to such important epoch events as the October Revolution and the Civil War. The aim of this paper is to discuss the formation and development of the historical-revolutionary genre in painting across the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The author refers to the unique creative experience of the Krasnoyarsk painting of the second half of the 20th century, which laid the foundations for the regional art of subsequent periods. Previously unexplored material, which was included in the collections of Siberian museums, is introduced into scientifi c circulation. Based on the results of the art criticism analysis of Krasnoyarsk painters’ works, the author is the fi rst to characterize the evolution of fi gurative and stylistic trends and 

diversity of their manifestations in creating the historical and revolutionary picture, reveals the main trends in the historical and revolutionary painting of the region. The analysis of the works takes into account not only the historical background for creating paintings, but also the context of the Soviet art as a whole.
