Abstract. The paper examines the role of musical and theatrical ties between the Russian and Saxon-Polish courts in the development of relations between the Russian Empire and Europe at the initial stage of the reign of Empress Anna Ioannovna. The author concludes that the musical and theatrical ties between Russia and Europe were used by Empress Anna as a tool of foreign policy. During this period, interstate cultural ties made it possible to create favorable conditions for the development of Russian-European diplomatic relations and change the image of Russia in European countries. This was an urgent foreign policy issue for the Russian Empire in the process of legitimation of the imperial title of Russian rulers by the European establishment.
