History of Creation and Specifi cs of Playing the Little-known Music Cycle by A. Rubinstein Composed on H. Heiner’s Poems

The paper is devoted to considering the music cycle by A. Rubinstein composed on H. Heiner’s poems. This music used to be rather popular before, but now it is practically forgotten. The author reveals the reasons for the Russian composer’s deep rooting in German culture. The cycle on Heiner’s poetry is comprehensively analyzed in comparison with similar music by Romantic composers, i.e. R. Schumann. The paper touches upon issues of the music cycle structure and each of its pieces. The author analyzes principles of architectonic, textured, melodic, harmonic construction of music in line with the poetic content. The author points out the reasons, for which Rubinstein’s vocal music forms only selectively the repertoire of modern composers.
