Based on theoretical analysis and data from the authors’ research, the relationship between emotional and cognitive impairments in elderly people is described. The mutual
influence of parameters that change in old age has been empirically confirmed: the level
of anxiety, depression, and cognitive characteristics. The authors note the necessity of
forming optimal relationships of elderly people as a factor preventing the progression of
emotional and cognitive disorders in people of this age group. The authors also substantiate the necessity of psychological support for the elderly, based on the development of the main components of socio-perceptual competence.
