The article describes the results of empirical studies on the role expectations of students
and schoolchildren regarding university and school teachers, carried out by Chinese scientists. The author highlights the aspects of role expectations, such as teachers’ personality traits, content of training, organisation of the educational process, nature of interaction between teachers and students. From the point of view of schoolchildren and students, teachers should not only have the necessary knowledge, but also pay attention to the development of students’ abilities, convey moral qualities and norms of behaviour by their example, direct students to correct actions and performance of their duties. Interaction should be more intense, it should be built on the basis of cooperation and justice. In addition, teachers should be aware of new information technologies and be able to use them on an equal basis with students.
