The author summarises the main differences between the Russian piano school and the European one. He examines the main national features of playing this instrument, especially emphasising the role of weight, legato articulation, pedalling and bell-ringing. The author highlights the singing basis of Russian music and the smooth and vocally toned style of performance associated with it, which distinguishes Russian pianists and their students in different countries of the world.
