The  article  discusses  the  essence  of  the  concepts  “21st  century  skills”,  “functional 
literacy” and “reading literacy” in relation to teaching foreign languages in the framework 
of a two-pro옟le pedagogical bachelor’s degree, as well as their continuity at different 
levels of education (school – university).
