The paper considers the bamboo fl ute Dizi, which is the symbol of
China’s national fl ute culture. Today playing the Chinese bamboo
fl ute is integrated into the music of the wind instruments all over
the world, which brings bright note to the music of Mozart, Gluck,
Vivaldi; it still retains the heritage of ancient Chinese music.
The author briefl y describes the evolution of the instrument, its
modifi cations and playing functions. The paper presents a genre
range of fl ute Dizi in the traditional music — from its modest par-
ticipation in the accompaniment of Chinese drama to its joining
solo-instruments with the rich potential of technical and expres-
sive devices. The author points out the way of development for this
instrument in the XXth century.
