The paper is dedicated to the opera-pasticcio “Love in a village” (1762),
which was created by the English composer Thomas Augustine Arne.
The musical material of the opera was compiled by Arne from the works
of 15 composers and his own compositions. In the original Arne’s mate-
rial, Italian opera style is combined with the English song. Enlightening
and sentimentalist motives are noted in the plot basis, in which various
aspects of the matrimonial theme related to the topic of social inequality
are revealed. In its genre “Love in a village” contains signs of the ballad
opera, opera-buffa, and pastoral.
