This paper is devoted to the performance analysis of the varia-
tion cycle created by one of the most outstanding composers of 
late XIXth — early XXth centuries, S. V. Rachmaninov. Relying on 
his experience, the author of the paper gives recommendations for 
studying various technically diffi cult passages of the music, as well 
as analyzes separately the fi gurative sphere of each variation. This 
work is intended for professional musicians, and can also be useful 
to specialists who teach compositions of this genre in the classroom 
of a special instrument.
