Expression of the “Weltschmerz” Concept in the Main Theme of the First Movement of Piano Sonata No. 4 by C.M. Weber

The paper discussed the musical semantic of the main theme of 
piano sonata No. 4 by C. M. Weber. The author relates the musi-
cal theme to the “Weltschmerz” concept of the German culture. 
This theme, as a symbol of human anguish and grief, was the 
expression of the eschatological worldview in the 19th century.
