Most modern composers have repeatedly turned to the Passion genre
throughout their career. This creates a kind of “cycle” that combines
several Passions based on the text of various Gospels. Often, any author,
creating several passions, sets his task to diversify these works as much
as possible in terms of style and compositional structure. In this paper,
we consider the specifi cs of such “cycles of Passions” in the works of
J. Macmillan, T. Kverno, and K. M. Karlsen. As a result, general conclu-
sions were drawn about the reasons for the variety of plot interpretations
when modern authors repeatedly turned to the Passion genre.
