Piano Piece «Night Street» By Gao Ping as a Combination of Chinese National Traditions and Western Compositional Techniques

The paper deals with the interaction of Chinese national tradi-
tions and Western techniques of composition in the music piece 
“Night street” by the modern Chinese composer Gao Ping 
(b.1970). The author notes that the composer created an original, 
fresh composition based on the traditional Chinese pentatonic 
scale. Elements of collage technique, sonoristics, polystylistics, 
and polyrhythmics are organically woven into the musical texture 
of the piece.
