The paper is devoted to the subject of instrumental and vocal 
ensemble performance in jazz and pop music. It is characterized 
by a number of specifi c categories which include features of the 
communicative and improvisational interaction between partici-
pants, the choice of musical material and stylistic variation of its 
interpretation (arrangement, instrumentation), focus on unique-
ness of the ensemble’s sound, attention to coloristic possibilities, 
and search for combinations of different timbres, achieved both by 
using different instruments and the originality of its interpretation.
