The paper is devoted to analyzing the dynamics of heroic images in
the music of D. Shostakovich. This imaginative sphere, along with
images of the tragic, refl ection, and the comic occupies a signifi cant
place in the legacy of the great composer. Several periods in the
evolution of this fi gurative sphere are distinguished. The fi rst one
appeals to heroics of the revolutionary time. In full, the whole spec-
trum of heroism was formed, starting from the 1940s. It is associated
not only with the collectivism, but also with the mental world of the
individual. In this context, Symphonies No. 7, 8, 11, 12, and others
are characterized. The work of composers of the Shostakovich school
is also involved in the research orbit.
