The Category of Homophony in the Musical Texture Doctrine

The paper considers the category of homophony, which is one of the 
central in the Russian theory of music. The area of special study of this 
phenomenon is the doctrine of musical texture, which has formed its basic 
theoretical foundations over the past hundred years. Homophony as a 
phenomenon in a musical text implies obligatory division of the musical 
fabric into two plans that differ in their function. Implementation of the 
homophonic principle in the musical fabric requires a variety of solutions, 
which are determined by the epochal style, stylistics of a musical piece, 
its genre, the idea of the composer. In the analysis of the functional mul-
tivalence of the texture, it is possible to apply the concept of “symphonic 
constitution”, introduced in the scientifi c use by R.N. Berberov.
