G. Kogan’s Ideas about S. Rachmaninoff as a Pianist

The article discusses the position of the famous Russian critic
G. Kogan — the author of articles on the performing art of
S. Rachmaninoff. The value and relevance of Kogan’s work on
Rachmaninoff as a pianist is noted. The emphasis is made on
Kogan’s consideration of Rachmaninoff’s innovative interpretation
of P. Tchaikovsky’s piece “On the Troika”. The context of the
article includes a comparative analysis of the interpretations of
this composition by pianists of the past and the present – K. Igumnov
and M. Pletnev. Conclusions are made about the continuity
of traditions in Russian piano art.
