Investigating the retrospective, generalising the expression of visualisation
of music and analysing the relationship of sound and image in this work, the
author seeks to support contemporary art. Structurally, the article consists of
three parts. The fi rst one deals with the historical background of the origin
of musical painting, gives an explanation of the concepts associated with the
origin of musical painting. In the second part, in order to more clearly explain
the difference between different types of musical painting, the author selected
several artists who are characteristic representatives of different movements,
their connection with music is demonstrated by the example of concrete paintings.
In the third part, having set forth and analysed the development history
and artistic features of abstract animation, the author considers animation as
a phenomenon expressing the dynamics of painting, and summarises methods
for music visualisation. “Musical painting” and “abstract animation” studied
in this work are advanced art forms that began to develop in Europe at the
beginning of the 20th century.
