The traditions of Russian Orientalism in V. Pelevin’s works are considered in the paper,
their oriental characteristic features and attributes are determined. Oriental elements and
especially ideas of Zen Buddhism are one of the peculiarities of V. Pelevin’s works,
which makes his texts different from other Russian postmodernists. Oriental motives in V. Pelevin’s works are realised at various levels of text. Oriental motives are introduced not
in the narrow ethnographic way, but as a complex of religious, philosophical, historical
ideas, facts and narratives. The author of the paper Bnds out that postmodernism and
Orientalism became the key features of V. Pelevin’s prose.
