The 100th anniversary of De Stijl was celebrated in 2017. Due to this
fact, a lot of retrospective exhibitions were held in a number of major
museums of the Netherlands. During the 2010s, large-scale exhibition
projects dedicated to De Stijl have been carried out in museums of the
world as well. However, there are few sources and studies of Vilmos
Huszбr’s creative heritage in the world. V. Huszбr was in close contact
with Theo van Doesburg. Huszбr was the fi rst of the De Stijl artists to
conceive a cinematic implementation of his several ideas. Theo van
Doesburg named one of these works by V. Huszбr “a kinetic painting”.
Due to the limitations of colour reproduction by means of the cinema
in the fi rst third of the 20th century, Huszбr created a sculpture to be
demonstrated as a shadow on the screen. Working in the accordance with
the De Stijl composition principles, Huszбr created sculptures, which
could be attributed to the avant-garde art such as the kinetic sculpture.
