Problem of Historical Education Formation in Grammar Schools in the East of Moscow Region in Late 19th — Early 20th Centuries

The paper considers the key stages of establishing grammar schools in the 
Eastern territories of Moscow province from the second half of the 19th — 
early 20th centuries. The author compares historical pathways of develop-
ment of the fi rst high schools in the territories of large cities in the East of 
Moscow province, such as Bogorodsk, Pavlovsky Posad, Orekhovo-Zuyevo, 
etc., Considerable attention is paid to the role of philanthropy and patroniz-
ing in the development of education, prominent representatives of which was 
the large family of Russian industrialists Morozov, Prince P. A. Golitsyn and 
others. Due to fi nancial assistance of patrons of arts and large government 
offi cials, there was a fast rise of education in the lands of the Moscow region. 
Based on the analysis of the dynamics for different social strata involved in 
the development of education in the above areas, we can draw conclusions 
about the essential needs of all segments of the society to get involved in the 
educational activity and try to reach the level of development of the leading 
European countries.
