The paper analyzes exercises and etudes which are presented in
“The collection of piano pieces, etudes and music ensembles” by S.
Lyakhovitskaya. The author raises the debatable question about the
role of exercises in the modern piano training. The issues of tempo,
phrasing, sound producing, articulation, dynamics are considered by
the example of particular etudes and exercises. The author emphasizes
importance to follow the sequence in turning from simple to compli-
cated, urging to introduce instructive materials of the collection into
training piano teachers in China
