The paper analyzes the challenging period when performers prepare
to present the trained repertoire to the audience. It also discusses the
problems musicians face on stage during concert performances: the
fear of memory lapses as well as insuffi cient development of motor
memory and inner ear for music. Based on his own long-term perform-
ing and pedagogical experience, the author offers ways to solve the
above-mentioned problems through various exercises and techniques
both with and without the musical instrument. They can help not only
performers playing from memory but also collaborative pianists or
orchestra musicians who do the sheet music. A part of the paper is
devoted to stage fright and methods of its overcoming.
Keywords: autogenic training, motor memory, inner ear for music, stage fright, mastering a musical piece, vocalization.
