Study of exclamatory sentences is an important and controversial issue of modern linguistics. Medieval novel by Hartman von Aue “Iwein” was chosen as research material. Exclamatory sentences in the literary work can be divided into the following structural groups: sentences beginning with “wie”, sentences beginning with “waz”, sentences beginning with “daz” and “pure” exclamatory sentences. Exclamatory sentences are used to express emotional content of the text, they make character’s speech more eloquent and dramatic.
