The article discusses the phenomenon of enantiosemy — conver-
gence of two contrary lexico-semantic variants within one word.
It distinguishes enantiosemy from polysemy because the semantic
unity of the word structure is not retained. Enantiosemy differs
from antonymy by containing polar lexico-semantic variants
within one lexeme. From the cognitive point of view, enantiosemy
reveals the divergence of human thinking in the process of the
world perception.
Keywords: enantiosemy, lexicosemantic structure of the word, cognition, world picture,
divergency of thinking.
